Product Details
HBF Flammability Tester
Brief Introduction
In the globally recognized UL 94 flammability standard, “HBF” stands for Horizontal Burning, Foamed Material. This specialized fire-safety rating applies to both flexible and rigid foamed plastics used in consumer devices and appliances. The test evaluates the material’s flammability in a horizontal position, specifically measuring its burning characteristics and its critical ability to self-extinguish once the flame source is removed.
Description
In compliance with:
- UL 94-2017
- ASTM D635
- V-0, V-1, V-2 (Vertical Burning Tests)
- ASTM D3801
- IEC 60695-11-10
Test procedure
- Place a sample of the foamed material in a horizontal position and expose it to a flame for a specific duration.
- Measure the time taken for the material to extinguish and the extent of burning.
- Classify the material based on its burning rate and flame spread distance.
Classification
- HBF (Horizontal Burning, Foamed): Materials with a slow burning rate and the ability to self-extinguish under specific conditions.
- HF-1 (Higher Flammability Performance): Materials with self-extinguishing properties and minimal burning.
- HF-2 (Lower Flammability Performance than HF-1 but better than HBF): Materials that may allow small flaming particles to fall.
