United States Coast Guard USCG certification

United States Coast Guard USCG certification

States Coast Guard USCG Certification – Introduction
The U.S. Coast Guard is a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Land and Natural Resources. They are responsible for safety in maritime traffic, transportation and recreation. Various safety components used on ships, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, signal lights and other products, need to be approved by the Coast Guard before entering the market. Manufacturers need to provide product design descriptions, pictures and physical objects to the Coast Guard for review to see if they meet safety performance requirements.
For some products, third-party laboratories are required to test them. In addition, USCG also requires strict production consistency inspection.

States Coast Guard USCG Certification – Certification Model

A. Type Approval: This certification model is suitable for products that are regularly or mass-produced for export and requires factory inspections and subsequent annual factory inspections at least once a year. If the relevant equipment passes the test and meets all other requirements, the USCG will issue a formal approval certificate and a number to the manufacturer to be affixed to each conforming product. The certificate is valid for five years and the manufacturer is required to submit an annual inspection report.

B. Case By Case Approval: This certification model is suitable for specialized products that are installed on specific ships and will not be mass-produced. This certificate is valid for one time, and the same product cannot apply for this mode again in the future. You can only apply for Type Approval mode again. This certification mode will not issue a USCG accreditation certificate, and does not require follow-up factory inspections.
