DIN 5510-2 Flame retardant test of locomotive wires and cables , fire test - standard name:

  • DIN 5510-2:  Fire protection of railway vehicles; Part 2: Combustion properties and concurrent phenomena of train materials and components, classification, requirements and test methods

  • DIN 5510-2 : Preventive fire protection in railway vehicles; Part 2: Fire behaviour and fire side effects of materials and parts, classification, requirement and test methods.

DIN 5510-2 Flame retardant test of locomotive wires and cables , fire test - Scope of application of the standard:

The DIN 5510-2  standard applies to railway vehicles subject to the conditions of use within the scope of the regulations for the construction and operation of railways, the regulations for the construction and operation of railways for narrow tracks and the regulations for the construction and operation of trams

DIN 5510-2 Flame retardant test of locomotive wires and cables , fire test - standard overview:
The DIN 5510-2  standard evaluates the flammability and concurrent combustion phenomena (smoke, droplets and critical heat flow, etc.) of materials and components used in rail transit vehicles (locomotives) in terms of likelihood level, smoke diffusion level and liquid dripping level. Level positioning

DIN 5510-2  Rail vehicle materials wire and cable flame retardant test, fire test - test method:

Rail vehicle (locomotive) flame retardant and fireproof materials - wires and cables

method:

DIN EN 60332-1-2  Single cable vertical burning test
DIN EN 50266-2-4  Vertical burning test of complete cable bundles
DIN EN 61034-2  Smoke density combustion test

DIN EN 50305 9.2  Determination of smoke toxicity

German standard DIN5510-2 flame retardant performance requirements for wires and cables

serial number
Vehicle parts subject to certification obligation
Fire-proof level
standard test
Require
1
Cables and wires, including data wires (fiber optic cables, data bus wires, coaxial cables)
to 4
DIN EN 60332-1-2
(VDE 0482-332-1-2)
For cores and cables, the test is passed if the distance between the lower end of the upper fixture and the beginning of the carbide exceeds 50 mm. If the flame spreads more than 540 mm downward from the lower end of the upper fixture, it is deemed to be unqualified. If recording fails, two more trials are performed. A single core or cable is deemed to have passed the test if both tests are passed.
2
Cables and wires (no data cables)
to 4
DIN EN 50266-2-4
(VDE 0482-266-2-4)
For cables and conductors with a diameter ≥12 mm, test type C. At the end of the test, the maximum height of the charred portion measured on the sample and judged by the lower edge of the burner on both sides of the conductor shall not be higher than 2.5 m.
DIN EN 50266-2-5
(VDE 0482-266-2-5)
For cables and conductors with diameters > 6 mm and < 12 mm, test type D is used. At the end of the test, the maximum height of the charred portion measured on the sample and judged by the lower edge of the burner on both sides of the conductor shall not be higher than 2.5 m.
DIN EN 50266-2-5
(VDE 0482-266-2-5)
For cables and conductors with a diameter ≤ 6 mm, test type D. Cable and conductor distribution may be in accordance with DIN EN 50306-1 (VDE 0260-306-1):2003-05, Clause 8.2.3 or DIN EN 50264-1 (VDE 0260-264-1):2003-06, Clause 8.2 .3 Articles. At the end of the test, the maximum height of the charred portion measured on the sample and judged by the lower edge of the burner on both sides of the conductor shall not be higher than 1.5 m.

Cables and wires, including data wires (fiber optic cables, data bus wires, coaxial cables)
to 4
DIN EN 61034-1
(VDE 0482-1034-1)
During the first 20 minutes, the light transmittance value shall not be less than 60%.

Smoke toxicity test: The toxicity of cables and conductor structures (ITC toxicity index) can be determined in accordance with DIN EN 50305 (VDE 0260-305):2003-03 Article 9.2

No test is required for cables complying with the requirements of DIN EN 50264-1 (VDE 0260-264-1) or DIN EN 50306-1 (VDE 0260-306-1) and tested in accordance with DIN EN 50305 (VDE 0260-305). However, it can be used alternatively; that is, the smoke toxicity of the cable can also be determined according to DIN EN 50266-2-4 (VDE 0482-266-2-4) or DIN EN 50266-2-5 (VDE 0482-266-2- 5) to determine the test.
