The FMVSS 302 - Automotive Interior Materials Combustion Tester is a specialized device designed to evaluate the flammability of automotive interior materials in compliance with federal safety standards. This apparatus subjects material samples to a standardized flame source, measuring key parameters such as ignition time, flame spread rate, and heat release. It provides critical data on the combustion characteristics of materials used in seating, dashboards, and other interior components, ensuring that they meet stringent fire safety regulations to enhance passenger protection in the event of a fire.

1. Combustion box:
1.1 Material: The combustion box is made of 1.5mm thick steel plate, and the structural diagram is shown in Figure 2.
1.2 Structure: A heat-resistant glass observation window is provided at the front of the combustion box. There are 10 ventilation holes with a diameter of 19mm at the bottom of the combustion box, and there are 13mm wide ventilation slots around the four walls near the top. The entire combustion box is supported by 4 10mm high legs. There is a hole for inserting the thermometer at the top of the combustion box. This hole is located in the back center of the top, and the center is 20mm away from the inside of the rear panel. There is a closable opening at one end of the combustion box, where the bracket with the sample can be placed, and a small door at the other end. There is a small hole for passing the gas pipe on the door, a support for the gas lamp and a flame height marking plate.
1.3 Collection tray: There is a collection tray for collecting molten drippings at the bottom of the combustion box. This tray is placed between two rows of ventilation holes without affecting the ventilation of the ventilation holes.
2. Sample support: The sample support consists of a frame made of two U-shaped corrosion-resistant metal plates. The lower plate of the support is equipped with 6 pins, and the upper plate is provided with corresponding pin holes to ensure uniform clamping of the sample. At the same time, the pins also serve as marks for the starting point (first mark) and end point (second mark) of the combustion distance. The lower plate of another type of support is not only equipped with 6 pins, but also has a heat-resistant metal support wire with a distance of 25mm and a wire diameter of 0.25mm. This type of support is used in specific circumstances.
3. Sample installation: The bottom surface of the sample after installation should be 178mm above the bottom plate of the combustion box. The distance between the front end of the sample support and the inner surface of the combustion box should be 22mm, and the distance between the two longitudinal outer sides of the test support and the inner surface of the combustion box should be 50mm.
4. Gas lamp:
4.1 Specifications: The gas lamp is the test fire source. The inner diameter of the gas lamp nozzle is 9.5mm and the length is 100mm. Its valve structure is easy to control the flame height and easy to adjust the flame height. When the gas lamp is placed in the combustion box, the center of its nozzle mouth is 19mm below the center of the free end of the sample.
4.2 Flame height: 19~38mm adjustable.
4.3 Ignition: High-voltage automatic electronic ignition.
5. Gas: Liquefied gas is used to supply the gas lamp test. Other combustible gases with a calorific value of about 35MJ/m3~38MJ/m3 after combustion can also be used, such as natural gas, city gas, etc. When conducting arbitration tests, it is recommended to use liquefied gas.
6. Metal comb: The length of the metal comb is 110mm, and there are 7~8 smooth round teeth in every 25mm.
7. Timer: 0~99.99S/M can be set. The accuracy is 0.5s.
8. Thermometer:
8.1 Range: 0~1300°C, accuracy is 1℃.
8.2 Digital thermometer (using thermometer + thermocouple to replace conventional mercury glass scale thermometer, solving the problem of glass thermometer being easy to break, and the reading is intuitive, simple and accurate)
8.3 Temperature sensor: K-type thermocouple.
9. Dimensions: combustion box L381mm*W203mm*H356mm; control box: L305X320X280 mm.
10. Power supply: AC 220V, 50Hz.
