ZY6017E-PC Fire Retardant Paints Test Apparatus (Tunnel Method)

Brief Introduction

The Tunnel Method Paint Test Apparatus delivers standardized fire-behavior metrics to verify how protective coatings perform under severe thermal draft conditions.

Highlights / Outstanding Features / Characteristics

  • Tunnel-Chamber Simulation: Tests specimens inside an enclosed, directional air-and-flame tunnel to replicate realistic structural fire scenarios.
  • Surface Burn Prevention: Accurately measures the coating’s capability to slow down initial ignition times.
  • Flame & Heat Control: Tracks and logs the exact speed of horizontal flame spread and the total reduction of heat release.
  • Regulatory R&D: An essential tool for chemical manufacturers and commercial test labs to certify fire-retardant paint formulations.

Description

In compliance with:

  • ASTM D3806
  • ISO 846
  • MIL-STD-810G
  • JIS Z 2911

Main parameters

Tunnel Furnace:
  • The furnace is composed of an angle steel frame and ceramic fiber board (asbestos cement board).
  • The angle steel frame is welded by 35 mm × 30 × 100 mm × 610 mm × 2 mm angle steel. The top is made of steel and the frame is long and wide.
  • The flue end of the tunnel furnace is open; there is an air supply hole with a diameter of 25 mm at the center of the bottom of the tunnel furnace, 110 mm away from the base.
  • The observation window of the heat-resistant glass plate is located under the side of the specimen support. It is made of a piece of quartz glass or heat-resistant laurel glass with a length of 622 mm, a width of 50 mm, and a thickness of 3 mm. Mark the glass from 100 mm to 500 mm at one end at intervals of 25 mm. Above the observation window is a metal sunshade that slopes down 60°. Inside the specimen holder is a serrated stainless steel calibration plate with a pitch of 25 mm.
  • On the side of the test plate support, above the centerline of the burner, there is a thermocouple insertion hole with a diameter of 3 mm, so that the junction of the thermocouple is delivered to the back surface of the test piece.
  • The tunnel furnace should be placed in a room without forced ventilation.

Burner:
  • The burner is made of brass, with a top diameter of 20 mm and a height of about 200 mm. It has a gas burner with an adjustable air intake.
  • The fuel used is gas with purity over 95%.
  • The ignition system is a high-voltage electric automatic ignition.

Cover Plate:
  • The cover plate is composed of heat-insulating asbestos board and steel plate pressed on the asbestos board. Its dimensions are 600 mm in length, 90 mm in width, and 10 mm in thickness.

Flame Center Temperature Instrument:
  • The flame center temperature is measured by armored thermocouples with an accuracy of class I, type K, and an outer diameter of 2.0 mm. Range: 1300°C.

Temperature Record:
  • An intelligent PID temperature controller (with automatic calculation function) and high-precision PT100 thermocouple sensor and timer are adopted, with an accuracy of 0.5%±1.
